You have a few options for making the request. It can be online, through the Emprega Brasil Portal or the Digital Work Card application, available for iOS and Android.
Another alternative is to send an email to the corporate addresses of the Regional Labor Superintendencies.
And how do I obtain the digital work card?
It's simple! Emails from these Superintendences follow a standard rule:
work.(uf)@economia.gov.br.
Just replace the “(uf)” with the acronym of the state where you will place the order. For example, if you are in São Paulo, the email will [email protected], and so on for all states.
If you prefer, you can also make the request by calling 158 or by contacting a labor agency in the state in which you will make the request.
How to apply for unemployment insurance?
Regardless of how you apply for insurance, the necessary documents and steps are the same.
When requesting, you must have the following documentation on hand:
- CPF number;
- Unemployment insurance claim (a document provided by your employer when you are dismissed without cause).
Pay attention to the deadlines for placing the order:
- Formal worker: 7 to 120 days from the date of dismissal;
- Workers with a suspended contract for qualification: can request this during the suspension of the contract;
- Domestic employee: 7 to 90 days after dismissal;
- Artisanal fisherman: during the closed season, up to 120 days from the start of the ban;
- Worker rescued from work analogous to slavery: up to the 90th day after rescue.
After the request, where it is also necessary to register an account to receive it, follow the release of the benefit through the Emprega Brasil Portal or through the Digital Work Card application.
The Ministry of Labor and Employment highlights that in these environments it is possible to check the value, number of installments and benefit release dates.
How is payment made?

Payment of installments can be made in several ways:
1. The first is by deposit into an account and specifically in banks indicated by the employee;
2. Deposit into the worker’s savings account, identified at Caixa Econômica Federal;
3. Deposit into Caixa’s digital social savings account;
4. Use of Caixa self-service terminals, lottery outlets and convenience stores, using a citizen card;
5. Attendance at Caixa branches, presenting an identification document and CPF number.
As for unemployment insurance amounts in 2023, with the new minimum wage, the minimum amount has been adjusted to R$ 1,302.
Unemployment insurance in 2023: Checking the Values
If you're keeping an eye on unemployment insurance amounts for next year, here's the information you need.
The information below shows the installment values according to average salary ranges:
- Up to R$ 1,968.36: The value of the installment is obtained by multiplying the average salary by 80% (0.80);
- From R$ 1,968.37 to R$ 3,280.93: For this range, you multiply what exceeds R$ 1,968.36 by 50% (0.50) and add R$ 1,574.69 to the result;
- Above R$ 3,280.93: In this case, the installment will be fixed at R$ 2,230.97, regardless of salary.
