The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Communications, announced the expansion of the Wi-Fi Brazil Program in 2022, which now has 500 more locations in various parts of the country with free internet access.

The initiative aims to improve connectivity in areas such as schools, squares, rural settlements, health posts, traditional communities and community technology centers. The unveiling took place in Brasilia, during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Telebras, Brazil's telecommunications company.

This digital connectivity project is the result of a collaboration between Telebras and the Banco do Brasil Foundation, with an investment of over R$ 12 million in one year. Wi-Fi Brasil offers a low-cost, high-speed internet connection of up to 20 Mbps, both via satellite and land.

To do this, antennas and routers are installed at strategic points such as schools, squares, settlements, health centers, communities and community technology centers.

For organizations wishing to participate in the program and have access to the internet service, it is necessary to visit the Ministry of Communications and place the order.

Get to know Internet for All

The "Internet for All" program aims to make the internet more accessible through broadband connections at lower prices, with a view to social inclusion and democratic access to the web.

This project is an extension of the low-cost Internet service GESAC, an initiative of the Electronic Government for Citizen Service.

It aims to connect schools, hospitals, health posts, indigenous communities, border posts and quilombola communities to the internet.

This effort is especially aimed at isolated regions that would otherwise be beyond the reach of information and communication technologies.

The main objective of "Internet for All" is to provide internet access to inhabitants of specific areas within municipalities who currently have no connection or suffer from poor quality services.

After all, there are more than 30,000 such areas in Brazil.

To implement the program, the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC) establishes partnerships with the municipalities, and the execution is carried out by companies that have been authorized by the ministry.

Municipalities interested in participating need to sign an agreement with the MCTIC, pointing out the areas that need the service.

This document also establishes responsibilities for the municipality, including providing the necessary infrastructure to set up the equipment that will provide the connection.

CadÚnico and low-cost internet

To receive the benefits mentioned above, there is no need to make a formal application, as the chips will be given automatically to students registered with CadÚnico.

For those who don't know, the Unified Registry (CadÚnico) is aimed at low-income Brazilian families, specifically those with a per capita income of up to half the minimum wage.

Similarly, the Wi-Fi Brazil Program does not require applications or requests, since the actions are planned based on the information provided by the Ministries.
