Comparison between Kindle and other reading devices

Announcements

Deciding between a Kindle, a tablet or a Kobo can be a dilemma for those who love reading, but also want to enjoy apps, watch movies, series and play games on a portable device.

Because these devices are designed for the same audience and, frankly, there is no device that will combine all the advantages of both worlds.

However, e-readers from Amazon (and other brands) and tablets, such as iPads and the Galaxy Tab S4, still leave many people confused when it comes to choosing, so here's how to make the best choice.

Main differences between a kindle and other tablets

Choosing between a Kindle and a tablet can be a challenge for people who like to read, but who also want to enjoy apps, watch movies, series and play games on a portable device.

These two devices are not suitable for the same type of audience and, frankly, there is no single device that combines all the benefits of both worlds.

Even so, e-readers from Amazon (as well as other brands) and tablets, such as iPads and the Galaxy Tab S4, continue to confuse the minds of many when it comes to making a decision.

Kindle

You know when people call all digital book readers Kindle, even when they want to buy a Lev or Kobo?

But in reality, the Kindle is just the reader from Amazon, the online retail giant. The simplest model out there is the 10th generation Kindle.

There are other, more "robust" models, such as the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Oasis, which even have a light sensor (very useful for those who read at night) and are waterproof.

The interesting thing is that all these models can connect to Wi-Fi and are integrated with Amazon's book page. This makes it much easier to buy and download books.

Lev

Lev, created by Saraiva, is the second reader on this list and is the newest of them all, being launched for the first time in 2015. Lev's highlight is the wide variety of books in Portuguese it offers - it has the broadest catalog of the three mentioned.

In addition, all models have technology that makes it easier to read PDF files, even those that don't have the standard book page format.

Kobo

And finally, we want to tell you about Kobo, a digital book reader created by Livraria Cultura. Kobo was a hit in Brazil because it was the first prominent digital reader here.

When we say "prominent", I mean that he is already well known abroad and has several bookstores offering books for him.

Why is the Kindle better for reading?

If you've ever wondered whether a tablet can be as convenient as a Kindle, which offers practicality due to its discreet format and ability to store many books, here are some considerations.

Both have similar sizes and weights, and the Kindle app for Android and iOS allows reading on mobile devices.

However, the e-ink screen of e-readers such as the Kindle has one major advantage. Regardless of the display technology used in tablets, such as LCD or OLED, prolonged reading on tablets tends to tire the eyes and detract from the experience.

What's more, notifications and the urge to check social media can be frequent distractions when using tablets, even if you put them in Do Not Disturb mode or the tablet in silent mode.

An important point to consider is that tablets offer internet access, allowing you to search for information related to reading.

However, many people don't know that the Kindle, in its most recent versions, also has a built-in browser.

Although less practical than a tablet, it is functional and allows you to do basic searches, as long as you are connected to Wi-Fi.

What's more, if you need to check the meaning of a word or its application, the digital reader offers a search service integrated into the reading. Simply select the term in the book and it will show you the meaning, translation and other useful information.

Conclusion

If you're choosing an e-book reader, the Kindle is a great option. It provides a pleasant reading experience and resembles a physical book, minimizing eye strain.

On the other hand, if you want a versatile device with connections for social networks, video streaming, drawing and photography, a tablet could be your ideal partner. On top of all this, you can also enjoy reading e-books.
