We at Jornal Popular have put together a list of 6 cool apps that you can get for free from both the Google Play Store and the App Store to find out the names of plants.

The good news is that most of them don't ask you to make an account or want to know where you are on the map. 

All you need is a well-functioning cell phone camera and you're good to go! Now, take a look at these cool apps that help you recognize plants from photos and connect with nature.

1. Seek

Seek is an application for discovering plant names that you can download to your cell phone, either Android or iPhone (iOS). 

With it, you can identify plants and animals around you using your phone's camera. It not only tells you which species it is, but also provides information about the characteristics and curiosities of the living being. 

You can even earn badges by searching for new species and taking part in challenges. Best of all, Seek is safe for children, with no need to register and no collection of user data. 

It was developed by a team from the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society and uses information from iNaturalist.org. And the best thing is that the app is free for everyone.

2. PlantNet

PlantNet is an application that specializes in identifying plants that are not ornamental or cultivated. It has a database that helps automatically identify the plants you photograph. 

The system analyzes the image and tells you which species it is. You can download the app on both Android and iPhone (iOS).

The database is constantly updated thanks to contributions from users, who can send in their photos for inclusion in the app. 

For best results, make sure you take the photo of the plant against a uniform background, with no other plants interfering. Best of all, PlantNet is also free to use.

3. iNaturalist

iNaturalist is an app for discovering plant names that has a community of more than 400,000 scientists and naturalists from all over the world. 

The records shared by users are valuable for botanical research. 

With the app, you can discover new species, store information about your own discoveries, receive suggestions from the scientific community and discuss your findings. 

iNaturalist is available for Android and iPhone (iOS) free of charge.

4. LeafSnap Plant Identification

LeafSnap Plant Identification promises to recognize 90% of plant and tree species around the world. 

It's a great way to get to know the flora of different countries. Simply take a photo of the plant and the app uses artificial intelligence and a database to identify it. 

It then provides information about the species. You can use LeafSnap Plant Identification on Android and iPhone (iOS) devices.

5. NatureID

NatureID is another option for botany lovers. When you take a photo of a plant, the app identifies it and provides additional information, such as the amount of water, light and fertilizer the plant needs to stay healthy. 

In addition, NatureID can detect plant problems and diseases, suggesting treatments and preventions. This app is also available for free for Android and iPhone (iOS).

6. Flora Incognita

The Flora Incognita app is a godsend for anyone who loves botany. As well as identifying plants, it throws a lot of useful information in your lap, such as whether the plant is poisonous, what its special characteristics are, where you can find it and even whether it's in danger. 

The app has a database of over 4,800 species and more than 10,000 images, but be warned, it focuses on plants from Central Europe.

And it doesn't stop there! With Flora Incógnita, you can create lists of the plants you discover and even export them. 

It uses your location to show you where these wonderful plants are hiding. Best of all, it's free and you can download it from the app store of your Android or iPhone (iOS). It's time to dive into the plant kingdom!
