How to view deleted WhatsApp messages?

Instructions to check deleted WhatsApp messages:
- First, go to your device settings and click on the “Notifications” option. Afterwards, click on “Notification history”;
- Swipe the bar to activate the notifications feature. Once done, all new messages will be displayed in this log;
- Now, go to the WhatsApp icon, whether the conventional version or WhatsApp Business on your device, so that the feature reveals all messages, even those that have been deleted by the sender.
In the messaging app, the text displayed will be “Message deleted”, but you can view the content through the views tab.
Recovering deleted messages on Android
When it comes to recovering deleted WhatsApp messages on an Android device, you have two options at your disposal: use Google Drive or use a local backup, stored in the /WhatsApp/Database folder.
However, it is important to note that the app does not allow restoring at any time. Before proceeding, you will need to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp.
To retrieve messages through Google Drive, follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp;
- Enter the phone number you want to restore;
- Then enter the code you received via SMS;
- If your application is protected by a password, you will need to enter it;
- Click “Restore” to begin recovery. The time required may vary depending on the number of files to be recovered;
- Finally, click “Next” to complete the process.
Recover messages using local backup in /WhatsApp/Databases
Before starting recovery using local backup, you will need to delete the backup file stored in the cloud as WhatsApp prioritizes Google Drive backup. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the Google Drive app and tap the three dashes in the top left corner;
- In the menu, select “Backups” and locate the WhatsApp backup file;
- Tap the three dots next to the selected file name;
- Then choose “Delete backup”.
Now, locate the backup file on your mobile device:
- Open the “My Files” application;
- In the search bar, type “WhatsApp”;
- Open the “com.whatsapp” folder and then “WhatsApp”;
- Inside the “Databases” folder, look for the backup file corresponding to the desired date;
- Rename the chosen file to “msgstore.db.crypt15”;
- Now, open WhatsApp again;
- Enter the phone number of the account you want to restore;
- Then enter the code you received via SMS;
- If your application is protected by a password, enter it;
- Click “Restore” to start the recovery process;
- Finally, click “Next” to complete the procedure.
How to Recover Deleted Messages on iPhone Devices

iOS operating system requires following a specific process, the only way to recover deleted WhatsApp messages on iOS devices is through iCloud backup.
However, just like on Android smartphones, WhatsApp does not allow restoring at any time. Before you start, you need to uninstall and reinstall the app.
After that, follow the following steps:
- Open the WhatsApp application;
- Enter the phone number associated with the account you want to restore;
- Then, enter the verification code received by SMS in the indicated location;
- Click on the “Restore conversation history” option;
- The time required to complete the procedure may vary depending on the number of files that will be recovered;
- Finally, click “Next”.
