What is Bolsa Família?
Bolsa Família is a federal government program that aims to directly help families living in poverty and extreme poverty in the country.
The idea is to provide a basic income for these people, integrating various public policies such as social assistance, education, health, employment and income.
In 2022, Bolsa Família was renamed Auxílio Brasil. At the time, payments started at R$ 400 and increased to R$ 600This is valid until December 2022, thanks to the approval of the Kamikaze PEC.
With the change of government in 2023, the program was renamed Bolsa Família, maintaining the minimum amount of R$ 600.

How much will Bolsa Família cost in 2024?
The Bolsa Família benefit for 2024 is guaranteed at a minimum of R$ 600 or R$ 142 per person.
In addition to the basic amount, there is a surcharge of R$ 150 per child under the age of 7 and R$ 50 for each person between the ages of 7 and 18, including pregnant or breastfeeding women.
In the last month of December 2023, the average benefit granted was R$ 680.61.
The distribution structure of the Bolsa Família amounts for 2024 is as follows:
- Initial payment of at least R$ 600;
- Increase of R$ 150 for each child up to 6 years old;
- Increase of R$ 50 for each person aged between 7 and 18 who is pregnant or breastfeeding.
Who is entitled to receive Bolsa Família in 2024?
The main condition for being eligible for Bolsa Família 2024 is that the family's income per person does not exceed R$ 218 per month.
Families living in poverty or extreme poverty must register with the Federal Government's Single Registry for Social Programs.
Those in extreme poverty have a monthly per capita income of up to R$ 109, while those considered poor have a monthly income of between R$ 109.01 and R$ 218 per person.
If the family fulfills the Bolsa Família requirements and is not registered, it is necessary to look for a registration or social assistance office in the municipality (CRAS).
In order to secure the benefit, it is crucial to keep your registration, family and financial data updated in the Unified Registry every two years.
It is important to note that registering in the Unified Registry is a necessary step, but it does not guarantee immediate entry into the program.
The Ministry of Citizenship carries out an automated monthly selection of the families that will be included to start receiving payments.
